BEACH IN THE EAST - YASMIN SEWELL | PAPERMACHE TIGER
My design solution was an installation as much as a pop-up. I was keen to deliver a contemporary rather than retro version of a skater store. Located in an open studio space in the East End of London, I designed a three-sided "concrete" swimming pool inspired by skate parks and 70's LA skater counter-culture. This installation hosted the pop-up shop. The minimal sculptural quality of the "pool" (its curvilinear raw timber sides exposed) combined with dynamic projected moving image and graffiti embellished fixtures - produced an environment that welcomed any modern-day gang of Z Boys and their ladies.
